Family Trees

  • I have over 200 Bagusts on the database, ranging from the burial of John Bagust in 1542, to the present day. A number of these fall into identifiable family groups, and these have been arranged into family trees. The family trees have been numbered in the sequence in which they were developed. Each has also been given a title which indicates the main area in which the family members resided.

These family trees are based on information from many sources, principally secondary sources such as names indexes, letters, word of mouth, etc. As far as possible I am attempting to confirm this information using primary sources such as Birth, Marriage & Death certificates, parish records, census records, and others, but this is a slow, frustrating, and expensive business. The family trees will be updated as new material becomes available, but they cannot be regarded as 100% accurate. It is better to treat them as a working hypothesis.

    NOTE
I suspect that family trees 1 and 2 are related. The first entry in each is John Bagust, both are described as Tallow Chandlers, and appear to have lived in the North London area. Family 1 John was described as a widower when he married in 1839. A Martha Bagust, wife of John, Tallow Chandler, died in 1837 in West London. Was this John's first wife, and mother to Henry, the founder of Family Tree 2 - the Bristol Bagusts?
